BIOGRAPHY

Katherina Hristova is an emerging composer studying at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire (Birmingham, UK) since 2020.

She studies film music composition with Neil Stemp and composition with Amber Priestley. She has written and recorded music for film and media as well as concert works.

Recent successful achievements include music for short films (“Dance”), documentaries (“How the world sees us”), ballet videos (“Dance Sweet Nightingale”), Lofi music (“Chill music to relax/study to” ), contemporary classical music (“Shallow footsteps in the snow”), art songs (“The Enkindled Spring”), pop songs (“Bright Shining Star”) and arrangements (“Awesome God/God only knows” ).

The short film “Dance” Katherina scored, was an official nominee at the Birmingham Film Festival in 2022. She was also among the finalists of the Benslow Music Young Composers Competition 2021 with her art song for voice and piano called “The Enkindled Spring”.

She enjoys collaborating with emerging and professional external artists/organisations and film directors on new projects and exchanging concepts, techniques and skills to create high-quality and remarkable music.

A few high-profile personalities she has worked with include Alex Heffes (composer), Script Sirens (collective of writers based in West Midlands, UK ), Michael Hinreiner (recording and mixing engineer), Judith Weir (composer), Sarah Leonard (singer), Stephen Gutman (pianist) and Daniel Rosina (conductor).

As a composer, Katherina is always determined to find new, unique ways to present her ideas in her pieces – for example using extended techniques, exploring harmony and playing with rhythm to integrate her German and Bulgarian heritage.

In summer 2022, Katherina successively participated in GEMS 2022, a two-week film music program in Madrid. She worked with professionals from the film and game music industry like Christopher Young, Pete Anthony, Garry Schyman and Eimear Noone. Furthermore, she recorded the music she composed and orchestrated during the program with the prestigious Spanish Radio and Television Symphony Orchestra (RTVE).

After graduating in 2024 Katherina plans to pursue a Master’s degree in Music for Film and Media as well as to continue composing concert music.
